TY Cookery Competition with Celebrity Chef Gary O'Hanlon

Our Transition Year students are enjoying an action-packed Transition Year Programme in Beech Hill College. Lots of opportunities have been created to add to the teaching and learning taking place in our classrooms. Students really embraced their cookery competition and worked very hard to make the event a success. The Hillgrove Hotel generously supported and sponsored this wonderful event. It was an opportunity to showcase the skill and knowledge acquired in our Home Economics classrooms. Having planned many healthy meals our students competed fiercely with each other to secure a place in the final Cookery Competition. We were delighted to have Cónall Sheerin and Ellie Connolly represent our school in the final. Our school opened its doors to representatives of our local media, and we were delighted to welcome the highly esteemed celebrity, Chef Gary O'Hanlon.

The air of excitement was palpable as Chef Gary O'Hanlon arrived in our school. Our students were ready to perform under the watchful eye of their peers, local media, representatives of the Hillgrove Hotel, CMETB and their teachers. The event was introduced and commented on by Year Head, Ms Fiona Mulholland.

The standard of preparation, cooking and presentation by each of our students was highly commented on by our Celebrity Chef. We are so very proud of Ellie and Cónalls' efforts. What wonderful ambassadors they were for our school and for their peers in our Transition Year. We were thrilled when Chef Gary O'Hanlon informed us that Cónall's dish will feature very soon on Gary's menu for his own guests! Chef Gary O'Hanlon was very complimentary of Ellie's dish and spoke of the high standard achieved. Well done again to our hardworking Transition Year students and thank you to the TY Year Head, Ms Fiona Mullholland for organising such a wonderful event!
