DISTRICT CROSS COUNTRY 2022

Our great tradition of cross country running in Beech Hill College is very much alive and well. This tradition was evident in the enthusiasm, fun and great effort displayed by our athletes in Armagh on Friday, the 14th of January in the District Ulster Schools, Cross Country Competition. Twenty-eight athletes representing all year groups in Beech Hill College ran with great gusto and determination. They were accompanied by their mentors Ms Smyth, Mr McKenna, and Ms Mayne.

Ella Connolly secured qualification as an Intermediate Girl, finishing in a stunning 5th position! Ella has still one more year to run in this age category which makes this result so particularly impressive. Aoife Maguire also had a great run finishing her six years of representing Beech Hill College in Districts Cross Country, by securing an equally impressive 6th position in the Senior Girls’ Race. The senior girls’ team also secured an overall Team Qualification as Aoife’s teammates Jennifer Boelling crossed the line in 15th with Shannon McKenna Fox following closely, behind in 19th position. Well done to our senior girls!

There were very gutsy performances by all our Junior squad members with lots of fine potential to work with for the future. Majella McKenna and Owen Murray both narrowly missed qualification.

Our senior squad were equally strong and focused displaying great determination and teamwork. Dylan O’Reilly had a superb race but unfortunately narrowly missed out on qualification.

We would like to wish Ella, Aoife, Jennifer, and Shannon the best of luck now as they prepare for the Ulster Provincial Cross-Country Final in Mallusk in two weeks’ time!
