 Friday, April 8th 2011 (9:30 - 12:30):  - Assessments for incoming students

Students are welcomed by the School Guidance Service.
In our continued effort to provide for the holistic education of the child, ability tests will be held in English, Irish and Mathematics

In-School Assessments

There are various forms of assessment in use within the school as it is school policy to regularly evaluate and periodically report the results to the students and their parents. These forms of assessment include:

  • Christmas and summer examinations - for all students.
  • Mock Examinations for Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate - held in February/March for 3rd and 6th year students.
  • October/November Assessments - the aim of which is the early detection of problem areas which may be resolved in co-operation with the student's parents / guardians.
  • Individual assessments by teachers are carried out on a regular basis.

When do State Examinations take place?

About one week after school closes for the summer holidays the State Examinations usually begin and they go on until the last week in June. However, oral assessments are usually held just before Easter and practical examinations take place after Easter.

When are the results of State Examinations available?

The Junior Certificate results reach the schools in mid-September. The Leaving Certificate Examinations results reach the school in mid-August.

When do students let the school know what they wish to do after Junior Certificate?

Some time in March students are usually approached by their Year Heads working in conjunction with the Guidance Department and the co-ordinators of the different senior programmes. At this stage students should know what they want to do and, where relevant, what subjects to choose for senior cycle.
